A forum for
joint working in environment and health, land use planning and transport
"working with public,
private and voluntary sector partners, to actively shape a sustainable
economic and environmental development strategy which will deliver a
step change in business, enterprise, employment and social opportunities
in the Sheffield-Rotherham Don Valley focusing particularly on
improvements to transport, energy distribution, water management and
green spaces" .

| History
The group (originally called East End
Strategy Group) was brought together in March
1998, for a seminar on "Air Quality, Land Use Planning and Transport in the East
End". The main discussion item concerned the implications of the
Governments, then, new Air Quality Standards on the Lower Don Valley in Sheffield.
A number of emerging development
opportunities, the production of a new Master Plan, and the creation of
an Enterprise Zone all focused on key sites in Rotherham and Sheffield
Don Valley has signalled increased momentum to deliver real change in
the wider area than covered by the EESG.
Our activities have included:

- Organised planning seminar on Planning and Sustainable
Development
- Contributed to Babtie brief
- Organised three East End Standing Conferences
- Made submissions to consultants preparing Integrated
Development Plan (IDP) for Objective One M1 Corridor Strategic Economic Zone (SEZ)
- Arranged meetings to put views to consultants preparing IDP
- Commented as a group to Sheffield First Strategy for City
- Facilitated five Intermediate Labour Market Environmental
Monitoring Workers working within EPS
- Organised Well-being and Sustainable Development workshop

Authority

for the Lower Don Valley

proposal conforms to the principle purpose

to the area and monitor progress
- Coordinate the work of all groups which contribute to the
principle purpose (see chart)
- Shape parameters for all relevant consultation commissioned
by this group
- Advise on all externally organized studies, surveys and
reports
- Set terms of reference for individual members when liaising
with external bodies on behalf of this group
- Set and monitor progress towards quality of life targets and
outcomes
